Barnet man arrested on sexual assault charges

BARNET — A local man was arrested Thursday on charges of sexually assaulting a juvenile, according to the Vermont State Police.

Authorities began their investigation on Oct. 5 into reports of sexual abuse involving a minor.

The Vermont State Police, alongside the Vermont Department of Children and Families, conducted the inquiry which led to the arrest of 43-year-old Patrick Barrett of Barnet.

Barrett was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held at the Northeast Regional Correctional Center (NERCC).

He is scheduled for arraignment at the Caledonia Superior Court on Jan. 8 at 12:30 p.m.

The Vermont State Police have not released any information regarding the victim in accordance with policies to protect the identities of victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.

The investigation is ongoing as police continue to gather evidence and information pertaining to the case.
