FAIR HAVEN — A 43-year-old local man was arrested on Dec. 29 for allegedly violating a court order and obstructing justice.

Garrett T. Given of Prospect Street is accused of contacting a protected party 20 times via phone calls, which violated conditions of his release set by Judge Cortland Corsones on Oct. 16.

Given was initially charged with grand larceny, unlawful mischief, and false pretenses.

The Fair Haven Police Department was informed on Dec. 28 that Given might have breached his release conditions.

Their investigation revealed that Given, currently incarcerated at Washington County Correctional Center in New York on unrelated charges, had asked the protected party to visit him in jail.

This visit also contravened the court’s no-contact order.

Additionally, Given allegedly offered the protected person a vehicle in hopes of having the charges against him dropped.

Given’s attorney received a citation on his behalf to appear in Rutland District Court to respond to the allegations.
