Salem police recover stolen vehicle, arrest suspects on multiple charges

SALEM — Two individuals were arrested Saturday morning after Salem Police Department officers spotted a stolen vehicle and conducted a successful surveillance operation.

At around 9 a.m., Officer Sharpe and Detective Carlin were on patrol in the Red Roof Ln area when they noticed a vehicle with a mismatched license plate that was also reported stolen.

Upon further investigation using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), it was confirmed that the vehicle itself was stolen.

Utilizing video surveillance footage, the officers observed a male and female suspect exiting the stolen vehicle and entering a room early that morning.

After setting up a watch on the location, the police observed the same individuals returning to the vehicle several hours later.

Upon approaching the suspects, the male was found to be in possession of the stolen vehicle’s key.

He was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property, a felony, Driving After Suspension, and for several Bench Warrants.

The names of the suspects have not been disclosed pending further investigation.

The Salem Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
