1 min read

FERRISBURGH — An 82-year-old Essex Junction man fell asleep while driving and crashed his vehicle on US Route 7 near Stage Road on Dec. 24, totaling his car.

At approximately 5:03 p.m., Arthur Loeffler was traveling southbound when he unexpectedly dozed off.

His 2013 Ford Escape veered off the road and collided with an unoccupied parked truck.

Loeffler, who was wearing his seat belt at the time of the incident, sustained a hand laceration.

He was treated at the scene by the Middlebury Rescue Squad.

The clear weather and dry road conditions suggest that driver fatigue was the primary cause of the accident.

No other injuries were reported, and no hospitalization was necessary for Loeffler.

The Ford Escape was deemed totaled due to the extent of the damage.
