St. Johnsbury man arrested for attempted armed robbery and larceny

ST. JOHNSBURY — Anthony Shafer, 42, of St. Johnsbury, was arrested by the Vermont State Police on charges of attempted armed robbery and petit larceny following incidents at two convenience stores.

The arrest occurred on Thursday morning after state troopers executed a search warrant at Shafer’s residence.

The charges stem from two separate incidents that took place on Sunday, Dec. 17.

The first, an attempted armed robbery, occurred at Nick’s Gas N’ Go in Lyndonville.

Several hours later, Shafer allegedly committed petit larceny at Center Tower in St. Johnsbury.

Following his arrest, Shafer was processed at the St. Johnsbury Vermont State Police barracks and is being held on $25,000 bail.

He is scheduled for arraignment tomorrow in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in St. Johnsbury. Further details may be provided following the arraignment.
