1 min read

ENOSBURG — A single-vehicle crash late Sunday night resulted in the death of a 69-year-old Richford man, Vermont State Police reported.

Troopers from the St. Albans Barracks and the Fatal Crash Reconstruction Team were called to the scene on RT 105 near Sampsonville Road around 9:54 p.m.

They discovered a 2013 Chevrolet Express with significant front end and passenger side damage.

The driver, identified as Ernest Erno, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was the only occupant of the vehicle and was found without a seat belt.

Initial findings suggest that Erno’s vehicle was traveling eastward when it veered off the south side of the road and down an embankment before coming to rest in a ditch.

The mild and rainy weather conditions had left the road wet with standing water, which may have been a factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Vermont State Police at (802) 524-5993.

Responding agencies included the U.S. Border Patrol, Enosburg Fire Department, and Enosburg Rescue.
