Snowmobile crash in Groton leaves operator in critical condition

GROTON — A snowmobile accident on the VAST Trail near Kettle Pond Parking area resulted in critical injuries for a 30-year-old man from Topsham on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Vermont State Police identified the injured operator as Travis Laraway, who was riding a 2019 Polaris Axys.

According to authorities, Laraway lost control of the snowmobile, was ejected from the vehicle, and sustained serious injuries.

Emergency Medical Services were attending to him when police arrived, and he was subsequently air lifted to Dartmouth Hospital.

The crash scene drew a large response from local emergency departments, including Danville Fire & Rescue, Cabot Volunteer Fire Department, Peacham Volunteer Fire Department, Groton Ryegate Fast Squad, CALEX Ambulance Service, Woodsville Ambulance, Plainfield Rescue, and the Dartmouth Hitchcock Advanced Response Team.

The Caledonia Wrecker Service removed the totaled snowmobile from the site.

The Vermont State Police are continuing to investigate the incident to determine the cause of the crash.
