WATERFORD — Vermont State Police are investigating the theft of nine road signs from the town of Waterford, a crime that has hit local taxpayers and raised safety concerns.

The theft, reported on Dec. 14 at noon by VSP St. Johnsbury, is believed to have taken place over the preceding nights.

The missing signs include two from Duck Pond Road, and one each from Moore Dam Road, Moore View Lane, Remick Road, Hale Road, Shadow Lake Road, Valley View Road, and Kidder Road.

Replacing these signs is expected to cost the Waterford community well over $2,000, a significant expense for a small town.

The loss of these signs could also potentially lead to confusion and danger for drivers unfamiliar with the area.

Authorities have not yet identified any suspects in the case.

They urge anyone with information about the theft or the whereabouts of the stolen signs to contact Trooper David Garces at 802-760-8410.
