Woman charged with animal cruelty in Windham County

GUILFORD — A Guilford woman was arrested on charges of animal cruelty after allegedly abandoning her dog at West River Park last month, authorities said Tuesday.

Police reported that on Oct. 11, a dog was found tied to a log by the West River embankment.

Following an investigation, the dog’s owner was identified as 33-year-old Kiara Mitchell.

Mitchell was taken into custody and charged with a misdemeanor count of animal cruelty.

She was released on a citation with an order to appear in the Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division, at a date to be determined.

The condition of the dog was not immediately disclosed by authorities.

Further details on the case are pending as the investigation continues.
