Vermont State Police investigate death in Whitingham

WHITINGHAM — Vermont State Police launched an investigation into a death at a home on Faulkner Road on Wednesday morning.

Officers from the Wilmington Police Department were at the scene around 9:30 a.m. for an unrelated ongoing investigation when they reported hearing a gunshot inside the residence.

They called for backup from the Vermont State Police Tactical Services Unit to ensure there was no public threat or danger to officers on site.

Following the safety check, detectives from the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations took over to look into the cause of death.

The individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene and later transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy.

Although the Vermont State Police are continuing their investigation, they have stated the death appears to be non-criminal and not suspicious.

Details on the deceased will be released once the investigation progresses.

No further information has been provided by the Vermont State Police at this time.
