School bus windshield shot out in Montpelier

MONTPELIER –– A U32 school bus windshield was shot out near Agway train tracks on East Montpelier Road on Thursday, October 26, at approximately 3:24 p.m., according to the Montpelier Police Department.

The incident was reported by First Student Bus Service, which stated that the bus was occupied at the time of the incident.

The bus driver and students onboard were not injured. Upon receiving the report, officers from multiple agencies responded to the scene, but the bus was not located.

The driver had already moved the students to another bus to continue the route, and the damaged bus had returned to headquarters.

Officers later met with members of the U32 leadership team and notified all involved parents about the incident.

The U32 staff assisted in providing video footage from the bus and important contact information for the officers.

While some officers processed the bus for evidence, others investigated a nearby homeless encampment where several individuals were found with firearms. Three people have been detained at this time.

The Montpelier Police Department, Berlin Police Department, Vermont State Police and the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department are all currently working on the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided when possible.
