DUMMERSTON –– A 17-year-old Newfane resident was arrested for excessive speeding in a Dummerston work zone on Oct. 18, according to the Windham County Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Norton reportedly observed the juvenile, who cannot be named due to their age, driving 71 mph in a 40 mph work zone on W. River Rd. around 5:52 p.m.

The speed limit was lower due to the area being a designated work zone.

The juvenile was arrested and subsequently released at the scene with a citation.

They are expected to appear in the Windham Superior Court, Family Division at a later date.

In addition to the citation, the juvenile was also issued a traffic ticket for the civil speeding violation.

Norton emphasized the importance of adhering to posted speed limits, especially in work zones where conditions can be more hazardous.
