Shooting incident under investigation in St. Johnsbury

ST. JOHNSBURY –– The Vermont State Police have launched an investigation into a shooting incident that transpired at the Mountain View Apartments on Mountain View Drive, St. Johnsbury, at approximately 10:27 p.m. on Wednesday.

Upon responding to a report of a shooting, the troopers located the victim, 26-year-old Antino Pepper of St. Johnsbury, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH).

He had been transported there in a private vehicle for immediate treatment. Pepper had suffered a gunshot wound to a lower extremity.

Following initial treatment at NVRH, Pepper was transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, for further medical attention.

His injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

Authorities are exploring all possible scenarios surrounding the incident, including Pepper’s account that the gunshot wound might have been accidentally self-inflicted.

The Vermont State Police are urging anyone with relevant information that could aid the ongoing investigation to come forward and contact the St. Johnsbury Barracks at 802-748-3111.

As the investigation continues, no further information is currently available.
