Driver charged with excessive speeding in Newport Center

NEWPORT CENTER — A 31-year-old man was cited for excessive speeding in Newport Center.

Police say they were conducting speed enforcement on Vance Hill, near Vermont Route 105, at around 8:10 p.m. on August 31.

The trooper initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle traveling 84 miles-per-hour in a posted 35 miles-per-hour speed limit zone.

Raymond Smith, of Newport Center, was issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for speeding with a waiver penalty of $724.

He was released with a citation to answer the charge at a later date and time.
