Police arrest man in St. Johnsbury after stealing vehicle, eluding police

ST. JOHNSBURY — A 29-year-old man was arrested in St. Johnsbury yesterday.

Police say they initiated a traffic stop on Avenue A at around 2:50 p.m.

The driver, identified as Richard Kendall III, of St. Johnsbury, fled the scene of the traffic at a high rate of speed, nearly striking two fully marked Vermont State Police cruisers which were traveling in the opposite direction of travel.

Kendall eventually crashed on New Boston Road at the intersection of Pierce Road.

He was taken into custody.

Kendall was transported to the St. Johnsbury barracks for processing.

He was lodged at the Northeast Regional Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury.

He faces charges of DUI drug, aggravated eluding law enforcement, aggravated operation without owners consent, grossly negligent operation, habitual offender, and possession of stolen property.
