BARTLETT –– A 39-year-old hiker from Milwaukee, Wisconsin was rescued from Mt. Kearsarge North early Tuesday morning after losing his way and calling 911 for assistance.

Bradford Nelson had ventured to the summit of Mt. Kearsarge North, exploring the area and spending some time off trail. He later realized he was lost and, due to cold, wet weather conditions and lack of light, was unable to self-rescue.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game department was notified of the lost hiker around 11:00 p.m. on August 25. The coordinates received from Nelson’s 911 call placed him about 3.1 miles from the trailhead parking area.

Fish and Game Conservation Officers responded to the call and located Nelson near the summit at 2:40 a.m.

They provided him with warm clothing, food, water, and a headlamp before escorting him back to his vehicle at the trailhead parking area, arriving at 5:15 a.m.
