Durham man crashes into Newmarket home, faces DUI charges

NEWMARKET –– A 74-year-old Durham man was arrested on DUI charges after crashing his vehicle into a Newmarket home on the evening of August 26, according to the Newmarket Police Department.

Thomas A. Ridlon, of Tall Pines Road, Durham, was the sole occupant of the 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan that ended up inside the residence at 1 Langs Lane.

Upon arrival, officers found Ridlon trapped inside the vehicle.

The Newmarket Fire Department responded to the scene and extricated Ridlon from the vehicle.

He was then transported to a local hospital, accompanied by a Newmarket police officer.

Initial reports from the scene indicated that a mother and young child were asleep upstairs in the residence at the time of the crash.

Officers confirmed that the occupants of the home were safe and had not sustained any injuries.

Ridlon is currently facing charges of DUI-Impairment and Open Container.

In the wake of the incident, the residents of the home are staying with family until the property can be declared safe for their return.
