DERRY –– Two motorcyclists died and two others were injured in a tragic collision with a Hyundai Elantra at a Derry intersection on April 13, according to local authorities.

The fatal accident occurred around 6:37 p.m. at the crossroads of Nesmith and N. Main Streets.

The victims, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, were both on the same motorcycle. A young couple on a second motorcycle suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Rockingham County Attorney Patricia Conway and Derry Police Chief George R. Feole extended their condolences to the victims’ families and friends.

“We understand how truly devastating this tragic event was for those who loved and cared for these young adults, as well as the community,” they said in a joint statement.

Following an intensive investigation by accident reconstruction units from the Derry and Manchester Police Departments, authorities announced that no charges will be filed against the driver of the Hyundai Elantra involved in the collision.

Both Conway and Feole agreed that the speed of the motorcycle, operated by one of the deceased individuals, was a significant factor in the crash.

As such, there was insufficient evidence to suggest the car driver’s actions amounted to criminal negligence.
