Driver charged after clocked doing 113 mph in Bridport

BRIDPORT — A 20-year-old man from Pennsylvania was arrested following an incident in Bridport early this morning.

Police say they were conducting speed enforcement near the intersection of Vermont Route 22A and Hemenway Road at around 1:30 a.m.

Police say they observed a white sedan traveling north at 113 miles-per-hour in a 50 miles-per-hour zone.

Troopers confirmed via radar the sedan was traveling 63 miles-per-hour above the posted speed limit.

Police say they attempted to stop the vehicle and were unsuccessful.

Troopers did not pursue the vehicle.

The vehicle was later stopped in the City of Vergennes and the driver was identified as John Garcia, of Allentown, PA.

Garcia was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Vergennes Police Department for processing.

During the course of the investigation, police say that Garcia also had two passengers in the vehicle.

He was released with a citation to appear in court for the offenses of negligent operation and reckless endangerment.
