VERNON — Police are investigating a vandalism that occurred in Vernon last week.

On March 18, approximately 34 mailboxes were damaged during an incident of what appears to be “mailbox baseball.”

The incident took place on Newton Road, Pond Road, Fort Bridgman Road, and Pond Road.

The Sheriff’s Office has received some unverified tips, that have not been confirmed, and is seeking any video coverage or witnesses that may have seen any helpful information about this crime.

Deputy Gallup is still asking victims that have not called in yet to contact him at 802-365-4942.

There also is a belief that damage to privately owned mailboxes is a Federal Crime, this is not true, the damage to the mailboxes falls under local jurisdiction, however, mail and packages damaged or stolen does fall under Federal jurisdiction.
