Woman pleads not guilty to kidnapping attempt in Burlington

BURLINGTON — A 26-year-old woman from Shelburne who was charged with kidnapping after allegedly attempting to take a 2-year-old child on a bus in Burlington last week, has pled not guilty.

Moyium Willomon was ordered to receive an in-patient mental health evaluation.

According to the mother of the child Willomon allegedly tried to kidnap, when they got on the Green Mountain Transit bus, Willomon was already seated.

Willomon reportedly moved to sit closer to Poirier and the child and then told Poirier that the child belonged to her.

Willomon then picked up the child and tried to exit the bus, but other passengers helped to stop her, allowing the mother to take back her child.

The mother then asked the bus driver to pull over and call the police.

Willomon has a history of mental illness.

She is being held at Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility in South Burlington, awaiting trial.
