Police investigating shooting death in St. Johnsbury

ST. JOHNSBURY — Police are investigating a death in St. Johnsbury today.

Authorities were notified of a welfare check on Hastings Street for a report that an individual may have been shot at around 9:45 a.m.

Police say they confirmed that an individual was deceased inside the home.

St. Johnsbury police requested the Vermont State Police respond and lead the investigation.

Investigators are processing of the crime scene.

The body of the victim will be brought to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

Police say the victim’s identity is being withheld pending further investigation notification of next of kin.
