Border Patrol nab impaired driver in Newport City

NEWPORT — A 20-year-old woman was arrested following an incident in Newport on Tuesday.

Police say they were made aware by the U.S. Border Patrol of a traffic stop they had conducted on East Main Street.

Border Patrol agents told police that they stopped the vehicle for a marked lane violation.

Agents also reported that the driver displayed signs of impairment.

Police arrived at the scene and met with the driver, identified as Mikayla Camber, of Newport City.

Camber displayed multiple signs of impairment and was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI – Drugs.

While processing Camber, police learned she had violated multiple active court-ordered conditions of release.

She was released with a citation to appear in court for the charges of DUI-drug and VCOR.
