Brownington man facing numerous charges

ST. JOHNSBURY — A 46-year-old man from Brownington is facing a slew of charges following an incident that took place early yesterday morning.

Authorities say they were alerted to a domestic disturbance at a home in St. Johnsbury at around 2:10 a.m.

Alex Smith is accused of pointing a firearm at the victim and fleeing the scene in the victim’s vehicle without permission.

Witnesses told police Smith was intoxicated prior to driving away, and he also had a criminally suspended license.

Following an investigation, police say he violated 4 counts of active court conditions of release and the crimes were committed in the presence of children.

He was located by state police and taken into custody.

Smith is charged with first-degree aggravated domestic assault, reckless endangerment, burglary, persons prohibited from possessing firearms, violation of conditions of release, crimes committed in the presence of child, habitual offender, operating without owners consent, negligent operation, and driving with a criminally suspended license.
