Fairfax man killed in head-on-collision, Sheldon

SHELDON — A 53-year-old man from Fairfax was killed after a head-on collision in Sheldon yesterday.

The crash took place on Route 105 just west of the Bedard Road intersection at around 10:25 p.m.

According to the report, a vehicle was heading east when it drove into the westbound lane which was occupied by a tractor-trailer unit. 

Police identified the driver of the truck as Ernest Wilgus, 57, of East Durham, NY.

Wilgus told police that he saw the vehicle heading towards him and crossed into his lane without warning. 

Wilgus told police that he attempted to stop his vehicle by braking, but it collided with him head-on. 

The driver was identified as Mark Vanburen, who was pronounced dead on scene.
