Police identify victim in suspicious death investigation in St. Johnsbury

ST. JOHNSBURY — Police have identified a local man who was found unresponsive on Railroad Street in St. Johnsbury last week.

According to state police, the victim has been identified as 45-year-old Johnnie Simpson Jr., of St. Johnsbury.

Investigators say Simpson was dropped off at Ocean State Job Lot on Memorial Drive at about 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, and was last seen walking south toward Railroad Street.

He was wearing a reddish-orange winter jacket at the time.

Simpson was brought by ambulance to Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Police say Simpson’s death is considered suspicious.
