COVENTRY — A pair of local men are being recognized for their work in helping authorities safely locate and rescue a missing elderly man last Friday.

The Orleans County Sheriff’s Department, Vermont State Police, and Vermont Fish and Wildlife were investigating a missing person case in Coventry on July 24.

A family member alerted police that the 83-year-old Coventry man was missing from his home at around 1:30 p.m.

The man was found safe after several hours of searching, thanks to Jacob Tice and Shawn Thomas.

Today, the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department put out a statement expressing their gratitude and commending the two railroad employees.

The Sherriff’s Department said Tice and Thomas quickly took action to assist deputies and EMS with locating the elderly man.

They provided deputies with transportation as well as assisted with removing him from the tracks safely.

The Sheriff’s Department said that due to the location, this would have been very difficult without their help.
