1 min read

NEWPORT — The Orleans County Sheriff’s Department has announced a program in which police officers will visit children celebrating a birthday during the COVID-19 crisis.

The program is offered in lieu of large parties for children that are essentially restricted during the coronavirus pandemic because of precautions and social distancing requirements in place.

The program should run through the month of April and is open to anyone under the age of 18.

“We realize that we have already missed a couple of birthdays and would love to hear from you so we can set up a belated birthday parade from our department,” a statement issued by the department reads.

Anyone wishing to set up a visit should call 334-3333 and let them know when the child’s birthday is.

The department will set up a time to come by and wish them a happy birthday from afar.
