Driver subdued after crash, fire in Englewood

ENGLEWOOD, NJ — A driver was subdued by emergency responders after crashing his vehicle and attempting to run into the resulting fire at a condominium complex March 19.

The Englewood Police Department received a call of a vehicle on fire in the Cross Creek Pointe Condominium complex during the evening.

Officers arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames and evidence of a motor vehicle accident.

Police immediately alerted residents in the immediate area to evacuate their homes due to the close proximity of the fire.

In some cases, officers forced entry to alert residents and escort them to a safe distance from the fire.

After further investigation, officers determined the driver was highly intoxicated and making suicidal statements.

The driver had crashed his vehicle and subsequently attempted to run into the fire before being subdued by an EMT and officers on scene.

The driver was transported to a local hospital to receive medical care and will be charged accordingly.

The Englewood Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the blaze.

Residents will not need to vacate their homes because damage was minimized due to the quick response.

No one was injured during the incident.
