SOUTHINGTON, CT — A Wolcott man faces multiple charges after fleeing from police and driving recklessly through two towns on March 17, 2026.
Officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Queen Street at approximately 8:32 p.m. after observing a traffic light violation.
The driver accelerated away as officers approached, traveling northbound through a heavily traveled corridor at a high rate of speed.
Officers did not pursue the vehicle but communicated the incident to surrounding officers and police agencies.
The driver disregarded traffic control signals and the presence of other vehicles on the roadway during the flight.
Within minutes, the Plainville Police Department observed the same vehicle operating recklessly in their jurisdiction and the driver again failed to stop.
Officers located the vehicle and the driver attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody.
The driver was apprehended approximately ten minutes after the initial attempted stop.
Police identified the driver as Giordano Marcone, 37, of Wolcott.
Marcone was charged with engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, operating under the influence, operating a motor vehicle with suspended license and drug-related charges.
The Southington Police Department has observed a significant increase in eluding incidents in recent years, rising from 24 incidents in 2023 to 84 in 2024 and approximately 92 in 2025.
The department has encountered 15 such incidents to date in 2026.
