Unauthorized radio transmissions investigated in Allegheny County

PITTSBURGH, PA — Allegheny County Emergency Services is investigating unauthorized transmissions of hateful and threatening messages on public safety radio channels.

The incident occurred at 2 p.m. March 2 when an unidentified radio subscriber accessed the analog radio system and transmitted the messages.

County officials said the system was not hacked but was accessed by an unknown user.

Allegheny County Emergency Services initiated an investigation and requested assistance from Allegheny County Police and the Federal Communications Commission.

Officials said similar incidents have occurred in the past.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
