MEDINA, NY — Police officers used fire extinguishers to slow the spread of flames at an apartment building early Saturday morning until firefighters arrived and extinguished the blaze.
The Medina Police Department was dispatched at 5:53 a.m. to a report of a structure fire.
Officers arrived to find flames on a porch area between two apartment doors, blocking one of the exits.
Officer Villegas deployed his patrol vehicle fire extinguisher to slow the spread of the flames as the Medina Fire Department arrived on scene.
Residents began evacuating the apartments.
Officer Wendling deployed a second extinguisher, further suppressing the fire while firefighters prepared their equipment and officers worked to alert additional occupants inside.
By 5:57 a.m., the Medina Fire Department had fully extinguished the fire and began interior operations.
Firefighters located and safely removed an additional occupant who had not yet evacuated.
Fire personnel, along with assisting agencies, completed primary and secondary searches of the structure.
No injuries were reported.
