Man arrested on weapons, drug charges in Woodbridge

WOODBRIDGE, CT — A New Haven man faces multiple charges after police say he attempted to flee a motor vehicle accident and left behind a loaded firearm and drugs.

Woodbridge Police responded to Baldwin Road at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Feb. 24, 2026, on the report of a motor vehicle accident with no injuries.

While enroute, officers learned that the operator of the vehicle was removing the license plate on his vehicle and attempting to leave the accident scene.

Officers observed Jaivon Williams walking in the area moments later.

Williams advised officers that he was involved in a motor vehicle accident.

Investigation revealed that Williams left a backpack containing a 5.7x28mm Smith & Wesson M&P firearm in the vicinity of his vehicle.

The handgun was found with 21 rounds loaded in the magazine and one chambered round.

The bag also contained drugs and drug paraphernalia.

A subsequent search of Williams’ motor vehicle led to the discovery of additional drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Woodbridge Police seized one bag containing 4.3 grams of cocaine and fentanyl, one bag containing 36.17 grams of cocaine and fentanyl, one bag containing 37.1 grams of cocaine and fentanyl, four bags containing a combined 1,701 grams of marijuana and fentanyl, drug paraphernalia and the firearm.

Williams, 20, of New Haven, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of an assault weapon, illegal possession of a large capacity magazine, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, possession of 1 kilogram or more of cannabis with the intent to sell, possession of more than one-half ounce of cocaine with the intent to sell, possession of narcotics with the intent to sell, interfering with an officer, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of plates and failure to obey stop sign.

Williams was detained at Woodbridge Police Headquarters on a $500,000 bond and was transported to New Haven Superior Court on Feb. 25, 2026.
