NEWPORT, VT — A Newport Town man was taken into protective custody in Newport on Feb. 19 after making homicidal and suicidal threats to the veterans crisis line, according to Vermont State Police.
Joseph Millett, 38, was identified as the individual who made the threats, including statements about a mass casualty event.
Troopers made contact with Millett by phone and determined he was in Newport.
Millett agreed to go to the Vermont State Police Derby Barracks, where troopers disarmed him without incident and took him into custody based on the threats.
While in custody, Millett allegedly continued to make threats similar to those reported to the veterans crisis line.
Millett remains in protective custody.
On Feb. 23, he was flash cited to appear for the domestic terrorism charge at 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 24 in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Newport.
The affidavit of probable cause will be available from the court clerk’s office following Millett’s arraignment.
