JAMESTOWN, NY — Police arrested a resident on animal cruelty charges after discovering four dogs confined in filthy cages, including one that had died, inside a north side home.
Officers responded to the residence at approximately 7:54 p.m. on Feb. 18, 2026, after receiving a third-party report of multiple neglected dogs.
Police attempted to make contact at the home but received no response.
While checking the exterior, officers observed through a rear window four dogs confined in separate cages that appeared heavily soiled with accumulated feces.
One dog was observed deceased inside a cage.
At approximately 9:50 p.m., officers lawfully entered the residence with permission from an individual associated with the property and made contact with Peyton Murray, who was identified as the person responsible for caring for the animals.
The investigation determined the dogs were confined in a rear room of the residence.
Each dog was kept in a separate cage that contained significant accumulations of feces, and none of the animals had access to clean food or fresh drinking water.
Police found the dogs had remained confined to their cages for approximately one month without being let outside.
The deceased dog had died several days prior, and police believe the death may have been caused by cold temperatures within the room.
Murray was taken into custody and charged with four counts of misdemeanor overdriving, torturing and injuring animals/failure to provide proper sustenance.
Murray was transported to the Jamestown City Jail and later released on an appearance ticket to appear in Jamestown City Court at a later date.
The animals were removed from the residence by officers and transported to the appropriate facilities.
