Child playing with lighter causes fire in Pleasant Point

PLEASANT POINT, ME — The State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to a structure fire at 4 Lewey Lane on Sunday at approximately 11:45 a.m.

Fire investigators determined that the fire originated in a bedroom.

The cause of the fire was determined to be a 3-year-old child playing with a lighter.

The child’s mother, along with an 11-year-old and the 3-year-old, were transported to a local hospital for evaluation of smoke inhalation.

All were treated and released.

Investigators report that the parent has been cooperative throughout the investigation and will be working to obtain appropriate resources for the child.

The residence sustained extensive damage as a result of the fire.
