Man arrested on sexual assault charges in Carlstadt

CARLSTADT, NJ — A 44-year-old man was arrested Monday on multiple sexual assault charges following an investigation into alleged assaults of a juvenile.

Carlos M. Leon, of Fairview, was taken into custody with the assistance of the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team and remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced Leon faces five counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, two counts of third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

The Fairview Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit on Monday regarding alleged sexual assaults of a juvenile that had occurred in the past.

The investigation revealed Leon sexually assaulted and endangered a juvenile in Fairview on more than one occasion between November 2024 and January 2026.

The investigation was conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Fairview Police Department, under the direction of Chief Vincent Belucci.
