MONTICELLO, NY — State Troopers from the Wurtsboro Barracks arrested two men on drug charges following a traffic stop on Jan. 30, 2026.
Troopers observed a 2019 Toyota traveling southbound on Forestburgh Road at approximately 12:55 a.m. in violation of multiple New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws.
The driver was identified as Deric D. Young, 46, of Monticello, and the passenger as Daquann D. Staten, 24, of Loch Sheldrake.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately 23.7 grams of a white powdery substance identified as fentanyl and approximately 27.6 grams of blue pills identified as fentanyl.
A search of Staten’s person revealed approximately 10.3 grams of a white powdery substance.
Troopers determined that Young was impaired by drugs.
Both men were arrested and transported to the State Police Wurtsboro Barracks for processing.
Staten was charged with four counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 3rd degree, intent to sell, a class B felony; three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 3rd degree, narcotic drug, a class B felony; criminal possession of a narcotic drug in the 4th degree, a class C felony; and criminal use of drug paraphernalia in the 2nd degree, scales, a class A misdemeanor.
Staten was arraigned in Monticello Village Court.
Young was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 1st degree, a class E felony, and operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor.
Young was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 23, 2026, at 9 a.m.
