PARSIPPANY, NJ — A school crossing guard was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle while on duty Thursday afternoon.
Parsippany Police and Morris County EMS 4 responded to the intersection of Vail Road and Redstone Drive at approximately 3:30 p.m. following reports of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.
Officers located Denise Rocco, an on-duty, uniformed Parsippany school crossing guard, who had been struck while attempting to stop traffic in a marked crosswalk.
Rocco sustained serious injuries and was transported to Morristown Medical Center, where she continues to receive treatment.
The driver, David Brown, 53, of Lake Hiawatha, remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Brown was issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to stop for a school crossing guard, failure to yield to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk and careless driving.
The investigation remains ongoing.
