Man charged with assault in Keyport

KEYPORT, NJ — A man was arrested after allegedly threatening and striking a victim with a handgun during a dispute over construction work on Jan. 20, 2026.

Officers from the Keyport Police Department responded to a residence in the borough at approximately 10:50 a.m. for a reported assault involving a firearm.

Patrol officers detained the suspect without further incident upon arrival.

One firearm was recovered at the scene.

Detectives conducted an investigation, including evidence collection and interviews with involved parties.

The investigation determined the suspect became involved in a dispute regarding incomplete construction work and subsequently threatened and struck one of the victims with a handgun.

The suspect was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of criminal restraint, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He was lodged at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending further court proceedings.
