GREENFIELD, MA — Police are warning local businesses about counterfeit currency after fake bills were used at an auto parts store.
The Greenfield Police Department said the counterfeit money was passed at an AutoZone store.
Police said the bills were handed over folded, apparently to hide the fact they were not legal tender.
The person who used the fake money told store employees the bills were being used for an unidentified program at an unidentified school, according to police.
Police said they are unsure if that explanation is true.
The department is asking businesses to alert their staff to closely inspect currency before accepting it as payment.
