Man arrested in assault in Ashland

ASHLAND, MA — The Ashland Police Department has arrested a Hopkinton man in connection with an assault and battery causing serious bodily injury that occurred near Cost Cutters, 330 Pond Street.

On Friday, Jan. 9, at approximately 2:50 p.m., the Ashland Public Safety Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a medical emergency in the area of Cost Cutters.

Officers from both the outgoing day shift and the incoming evening shift were immediately dispatched.

Officer Emmanuel Toscano was the first officer on scene and began rendering aid to the victim.

Based on his training and experience, Officer Toscano observed injuries consistent with possible serious head trauma.

The Ashland Fire Department arrived shortly thereafter and assumed medical care.

Witnesses reported that the injuries were the result of an assault.

A description of the suspect was broadcast to all responding units.

Officer Robert Araujo located the suspect within minutes on Pond Street near the Speedway gas station.

The suspect was identified as Jadaius Figueroa, 23, of Hopkinton.

Sergeant Kevin Piers responded to the scene and spoke with Figueroa.

After probable cause was established, Figueroa was placed under arrest and transported to the Ashland Police Department.

Figueroa is charged with one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and one count of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury.

A probable cause bail hearing was held, and the Framingham District Court set bail at $20,000 cash.

Figueroa is being held by the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office pending arraignment at Framingham District Court on Monday, Jan. 12.

Due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, the victim was transported by MedFlight for advanced medical treatment.

Officers from the Ashland Police Department assisted in securing a landing zone at Stone Park.
