2 charged with firearms, narcotics offenses in Cranford

CRANFORD, NJ — Two people from Essex County were arrested on firearms and narcotics charges following a traffic stop on North Avenue on Wednesday.

At approximately 9:56 p.m., police stopped a 2021 Nissan Altima on North Avenue near the Garden State Parkway exchange for several motor vehicle violations.

During the investigation, Officer Nicolette Tufano located narcotics packaged for distribution purposes within the vehicle.

A firearm loaded with six rounds of ammunition was also located within the Nissan.

Two vehicle occupants were taken into custody without incident.

Police recovered a Glock 9mm handgun with hollow point bullets, suspected heroin, suspected crack cocaine and prescription pills.

The driver, Samad Wright, 45, of Newark, was charged with second-degree possession of a firearm, second-degree possession of a weapon during CDS offenses, fourth-degree possession of prohibited weapons and second-degree possession of heroin/cocaine with intent to distribute.

The vehicle’s other occupant, Pamela Armstrong, 64, of Orange, was charged with second-degree possession of heroin/cocaine with intent to distribute and third-degree hindering apprehension.

Wright and Armstrong were committed to the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing.
