Man arrested on robbery charge in Teaneck

TEANECK, NJ — A Dumont man was arrested following a physical altercation with a smoke shop clerk in a shopping plaza parking lot Monday night.

Sergeant Jon-Ryan Meyer was patrolling the area of the T-State Plaza at 1400 Teaneck Road at 9:57 p.m. when he observed two men engaged in a physical altercation in the parking lot.

Meyer separated the individuals while additional officers responded to assist.

An investigation determined that one of the individuals, identified as Joshua Jeong, 18, of Dumont, had entered the IPUFF Smokeshop at 1402 Teaneck Road and shoplifted several items before fleeing the store.

The other man, determined to be the store’s clerk, chased after Jeong and confronted him as he attempted to enter a parked vehicle.

A physical altercation ensued during which Jeong struck the clerk with a closed fist several times in the face.

No injuries were reported by the clerk or Jeong.

Jeong was charged on a warrant complaint with second-degree robbery.

He was processed and transported to the Bergen County Corrections and Rehabilitation Center.
