POINT PLEASANT BOROUGH, NJ — Police took an individual experiencing a behavioral health crisis into custody without injury following an hours-long standoff at a hotel on Jan. 1.
The Point Pleasant Police Department responded to the Rodeway Inn at 620 Route 88 at approximately 9:18 a.m. to assist the Ocean County PESS Unit with the individual.
Officers observed the person to be highly agitated and in possession of a knife and other objects upon arrival.
Officers secured the area and isolated the individual inside a hotel room to ensure public safety.
The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Regional SWAT Team and Ocean County Crisis Negotiators responded to the scene.
Following an extended period of negotiation, the individual was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for further assessment.
Charges are pending.
The Bay Head Police Department, Mantoloking Police Department, Ocean County Crisis Negotiators, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Regional SWAT Team and the Point Pleasant First Aid Squad assisted at the scene.
