Man arrested on domestic violence charges in Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, NY — Police arrested a man on multiple charges following a domestic dispute on the city’s south side.

Officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s Second Platoon responded to a residence at approximately 7:42 p.m. on Dec. 26 for a reported domestic dispute in progress.

An investigation determined that Nicholas R. Barrett engaged in a physical altercation with the victim in the presence of two young children, resulting in the victim sustaining multiple physical injuries.

During the incident, Barrett prevented the victim from calling 911 by taking the victim’s cellular phone and smashing it on the floor, police said.

Barrett also prevented the victim from leaving the residence by physically pushing the victim back when the victim attempted to exit, according to police.

Barrett was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Jamestown City Jail where he was held pending arraignment.

He was charged with assault in the third degree, unlawful imprisonment in the second degree, two counts of criminal mischief in the fourth degree and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Barrett was arraigned by Jamestown City Court on Dec. 27 and released.
