WATERVILLE, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a man on suspicion of driving under the influence early Christmas Eve morning after observing him doing donuts at an intersection.

Hunter Tallman, 26, of Waterville, was arrested at approximately 12:37 a.m. at the intersection of Vermont Route 109 and Hogback Road.

Troopers from the Vermont State Police Williston Barracks had been notified by the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department at approximately 12:20 a.m. that a Chevrolet pickup truck was involved in a hit-and-run in Johnson with a potentially intoxicated operator.

The operator was suspected to be traveling to Waterville.

Troopers observed a white Chevrolet pickup truck doing donuts at the intersection and initiated a traffic stop.

The operator was identified as Tallman.

A Department of Motor Vehicles query revealed Tallman held a criminally suspended license.

While speaking with Tallman, troopers observed multiple indicators of impairment.

Tallman was screened and subsequently arrested for suspicion of DUI.

It was also determined that Tallman had active conditions of release to not operate a motor vehicle with any alcohol in his system.

Tallman was transported to the Morristown Police Department for processing and released with a citation to appear in Lamoille County Superior Court on Jan. 7, 2026, at 12:30 p.m.

He faces charges of DUI refusal, violation of conditions of release and criminal driving with a suspended license.
