LYSANDER, NY — A 36-year-old man faces dozens of weapons charges following a multi-day investigation that resulted in the seizure of numerous illegally possessed firearms and high-capacity ammunition magazines.
Mark Hoyer, of Lysander, was initially arrested Dec. 7 on a charge of criminal obstruction of breathing following a domestic incident reported Dec. 6.
New York State Police at Fulton and Lysander responded to the domestic incident involving Hoyer and the mother of his child.
During the investigation, police developed information indicating Hoyer possessed multiple firearms at his residence in Lysander.
Hoyer turned himself in to State Police on Dec. 7 and was lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center.
As the investigation continued, Community Stabilization Unit investigators obtained information indicating Hoyer possessed multiple handguns, assault-style rifles and a large quantity of high-capacity ammunition feeding devices.
Police obtained and executed a search warrant at Hoyer’s residence Dec. 10.
During the search, investigators located multiple rifles and shotguns that were compliant with New York State law, along with firearm parts that appeared to have been intentionally damaged or altered.
Further investigation revealed Hoyer attempted to conceal additional firearms and magazines at multiple locations.
With assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, investigators conducted interviews that led to the recovery of additional firearm components and completed handguns from a garage owned by a family member.
On Dec. 11, police searched Hoyer’s place of employment in Syracuse, where additional firearm components and a partially disassembled AK-47 were seized.
In total, investigators seized five completed handguns, three completed assault rifles and more than 50 high-capacity ammunition magazines.
Hoyer was charged with 54 counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and two counts of criminal possession of a firearm.
He was remanded to the Onondaga County Justice Center pending arraignment.
