DEWITT, NY — A Syracuse man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing at a Chipotle restaurant earlier this month.
Colin Cole, 19, of Syracuse, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon and charged with second-degree assault, according to the DeWitt Police Department.
Officers were dispatched to the Chipotle at 3496 Erie Boulevard at about 10:33 p.m. on Dec. 8 for a report of a fight involving three people in which one man was stabbed with a knife.
All parties had left the scene before police arrived.
Officers were later notified that a person with stab wounds had arrived at a local hospital.
Police determined the injured man was the victim from the Chipotle incident.
The victim told police he and a friend were getting in line at the restaurant when he saw a man he knew at the front of the line.
Words were exchanged between the victim and suspect, and a physical altercation occurred.
During the fight, the suspect pulled out a pocketknife and stabbed the victim in the upper back, causing a puncture wound, police said.
The victim grabbed the blade of the knife in an attempt to stop the suspect from further injuring him and cut his hand on the blade.
The suspect then left the restaurant and drove away in a black SUV, possibly a Volvo.
Witnesses described the suspect as a light-skinned Black man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.
DeWitt police investigators identified Cole as the suspect through witness information and other investigative leads.
Investigators located Cole near the intersection of Lodi Street and North McBride Street in Syracuse at about 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, where a traffic stop was conducted on his vehicle.
Cole was taken into custody without incident and lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center pending arraignment.
