Woman killed in crash on I-87 in Rosendale

ROSENDALE, NY — An 81-year-old woman died at the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 87 northbound near milepost marker 83 on Dec. 9.

Esther Oliveras, of Elizaville, was a passenger in a 2007 Nissan that was traveling southbound on I-87 and entered the U-turn at mile marker 83 from the southbound lanes at approximately 1:52 p.m., according to New York State Police.

A 2023 Kia was traveling northbound in the left lane when it collided with the Nissan as it was executing the U-turn into the northbound lanes.

The impact caused the Nissan to roll over several times.

Following the collision, the Kia exited the left lane and struck the guide rail.

Oliveras received lifesaving measures at the scene but ultimately succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on site.

The driver of the Nissan, Guillermo Olivera, 84, also of Elizaville, was transported to Westchester Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Kia, identified as Amiah Desiah Lea Corp, 21, of Schenectady, was transported to Westchester Medical Center in critical condition.

The collision remains under investigation.
